The little word "no" is your friend. In my article "The #1 reason why your client base won't grow" I spoke about why our relationship with this small and yet extremely powerful word is so negative and how we can change it so that it no longer acts as a stop sign but rather as a challenge to overcome. Perception is everything, and one of the superpowers we have as a part of our human condition is that we can use our mind's eye to see anything from multiple angles.
As a life coach, I activate this ability within the clients I work with and help them to use it daily in navigating the challenges that come at them. The minute we become too fixated on one way, we are in danger of losing perspective and this is a surefire way to getting stuck and staying stuck.
In this article, I am going to offer a new perspective on seeing the word "no" as making money rather than seeing it as an obstacle to making money. This perspective and strategy are only effective if you can see the long game. If you are too short-sighted this strategy is tough to adopt. Remember that the world of sales is the journey of finding the yes people, and part of that journey means you will come across a load of no people too. Every path we take will have its light as well as its shade and both have much to teach us.
Imagine that you are needing to earn R1000 through the product or the service you are offering, and you set out to find your yes person who wants to buy what you have to offer. For simplicity's sake, let's imagine that 1 out of 10 people will say yes, which means you will have to go through 9 no people to get to your yes.
Now your yes person will give you R1000 in physical cash, but each time you come across a no person, imagine that their no is giving you R100.
Remember that each no brings you one step closer to your yes person. While they are not giving you any physical cash, in your mind's eye you have the power to see them giving you a part of the total you are wanting to make. It's about seeing every aspect of your business as an income generator. This strategy allows you to begin experiencing the no person as a positive entity in your business and that they are just as vital as the yes person. They may be even more important. Just because they say no, they could be extremely vital in other ways, such as referring you to someone else.
Seeing no as an income generator is key to your business success. When you get a no, receive it with gratitude, and take that money with you. Each no means you are accumulating more money, even if it is only for now in the realms of your imagination. This ability to visualize is what creates positive momentum, and serves as a great motivating force.
This strategy will bring more confidence in your ability, and create a sense of well-being and stability, which your potential clients will pick up on. It's these qualities that foster trust, and since trust is a scarce commodity these days when a client senses that you are trustworthy, you will have a client for life.
Fear fosters an energy of desperation, and this repels people. Let’s face it, if we feel financially insecure we will move into a place of fear. If each no you get is seen as an obstacle to getting money, then each no will only generate more fear.
The mind responds to how you see things and what you believe to be true. The minute you turn a no into an income generator, then it will feed your financial stability belief system. The mind will respond in favor of this, and you will radiate that confidence.
Now when you approach anyone you will see them in a new light, you no longer see them as a potential yes or no person, but rather as an income generator regardless of the outcome. This puts you in an unstoppable position of power.
Put it to the test for the next week or so, starting right now, and see how this small but extremely significant change in perception around that little word "no" can make all the difference in the pursuit of your financial goals. Oh and drop me a message and let me know how it is going!
